Composable Commerce checklist

Brink Commerce API enables you to connect all the components you need for your Composable Commerce ecosystem. The best-of-breed philosophy for a successful e-Commerce. But before you decide on changing to a composable setup, you need to prepare yourself and your team on how to implement the solution.

We have made a checklist of the most important things to consider when preparing to implement and deploy your composable infrastructure solution.

1. Understand the current situation

To make sure that a composable approach is the right one for you, you have to understand your own business and the goals that you want to achieve. Understand the current situation, or you risk making decisions based on an incorrect basis. Furthermore, you need to make sure that you support essential processes first. Do you know what they are? You might have to consider a few other things, such as cost and resource utilization. Where are you today, and where do you want to be.

2. Take Inventory

The very idea of a composable ecosystem is to get away from the lock-ins and monolithic commerce platforms that dominate the industry today. With a composable setup, you get the freedom to choose all the components independently of each other. This also means that you will have to ensure you have the capacity and skills in your organization to manage the new setup.

3. Research Composable solutions

Before you choose to put together a composable ecosystem, you also have to research different options on the market. The composable approach gives you the freedom to change components, but keep in mind that you also have to consider if they will support your processes - not the other way around. For example, are you focusing on the web or other channels? On the other hand, choosing a headless approach gives you the freedom to create whatever front-end you want.

4. Make a Plan

Decide on how you want to measure success in your business. How will you ensure that the company stays up and running while implementing the new solutions? Can you still keep the business working towards specific goals in the process, and what kind of arrangements do you need to consider before starting?

5. Prepare your team

The team that will make this transition happen will have to understand the new technology and how they should work moving forward. For example, does the dynamic and cooperation between different workgroups need to change or do you need to put together more detailed automated workflows to ensure nothing is forgotten?

6. Implementation

When you have found the best solution for your eCommerce operations, made a plan for what needs to happen, and prepared your team for what comes next, it is time to start the implementation process.

7. Experiment, evaluate, and iterate

The composable approach allows for faster deployment, which provides benefits throughout your enterprise. You are free to test early-stage solutions, different development workflows, or strategies. With a faster time-to-market, dev teams can experiment and test without waiting on new equipment. So, experiment, learn and improve.
